Module one-- what is happening related to IT in my clinical area?
I am doing my clinicals at a residential treatment center for teen girls. The treatment center recently began a new information system that will reduce the paperwork, improve confidentiality and streamline documentation. The program they have implemented is called Bestnotes. This system allows all treatment plans, reviews, and therapy notes to be put on this secure site. The program even allows a portion to be accessed by parents of the teens to look at notes from therapists and see how their daughter is doing in school and if she has any upcoming appointments. This is a great program, no longer is there loose papers to be stored, or replication to fulfill all the documentation requirements. It is all there and the applicable information is automatically updated on reviews so updating treatment plans is easier and much more time efficient. I think this improvement to documentation is because of advances in IT.
Module 1- why do I need to know about information management?
Boy, I feel pretty uninformed when it comes to information management. I really need this class and I am excited to learn more about information management. I feel it would be good to know about information management to help me be a better nurse practitioner. If I know how to use information that is available via the internet I can give better care to my clients. If I have a client with a problem there has probably been a study done on it somewhere that I can read about and get some good evidence to use in treating my client. New information is disseminated more quickly when using information technology. We don't have to reinvent the wheel with every client but we can rely on the experiences and research of others more easily.
Module One--who am I?
Hi I am Paige Barnard and I am in the Psych NP program. I have two semesters after this one until I graduate!!! Yippee!!! I am a distance student and I live in Hyde Park Utah. My passions in life are my family, golfing and horseback riding. I plan to go to school and break 90 consistently this summer on the golf course! Do you wonder which will be the most fun?
